Monthly Archives: March 2013

This coming Sunday, 31 March 2013, we will celebrate Easter at Christ Church with a High Mass at 9:15AM, which will include the Missa Sancti Joannis de Deo ("Little Organ Mass") by Joseph Haydn, and a special Festival Evensong at 6PM, including the Evening Service in C by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford.

There will be only one service this coming Sunday, 24 March 2013, at 9AM. The Bishop of Pretoria, the Right Revd. Dr. Johannes Seoka, will visit Christ Church, and bless the newly commissioned Stations of the Cross during this service.

A reminder of the Lent Bible Study session on 13 March at 7 pm: the theme for Wednesday night's session will be Fruits of the Spirit. Please join us for a "fruitful" evening!

Please diarise 11-19 May 2013 - "Christ Church Alive in the Spirit" Mission Week will be taking place at Christ Church Arcadia. Look out for details here and in church!

If you want to know more or would like to be involved, please contact Margaret Labuschagne at greenl@iafrica.com or the Parish Office.

The Lent Bible study continues this Wednesday evening at 19h00 in the church hall, and will go on till Palm Sunday.    This is the ideal way to keep focused on your Lenten objectives.  All welcome.

All altar servers (and would-be altar servers) are expected to attend practice sessions every Saturday morning. These sessions will take place from 10.00 to 10.30, straight after confirmation classes.

Evensong for the Third Sunday in Lent includes Miserere (William Byrd) as introit, Carolus Andreae fauxbourdons for the evening canticles, and Josquin's monumental Miserere (Ps. 51) for the anthem. This will be the first performance of the complete setting by Josquin in Pretoria, and probably in Africa, and has taken only about 510 years to reach these shores. The Choir of Christ Church is directed by George King. All welcome to this quintessential Anglican service -- no admission charge but a collection will be taken. Parking under guard.
